Volgens <strong>Karin Hogenboom</strong> en <strong>Tanja Stevens</strong> ligt de oplossing in het voeden van je ogen met de juiste voedingsstoffen en oefeningen om de ogen te ontspannen. In hun boek <em><strong>Geef je ogen de kost</strong></em> delen ze eenvoudige tips en recepten om je ogen weer gezond te maken, zonder bril, lenzen of medische ingrepen. &#8220;Een bril is een verslaving.&#8221; </p><p>Het klinkt misschien onwerkelijk, maar volgens <strong>ogenexpert Karin Hogenboom</strong> en <strong>gezondheidstherapeut Tanja Stevens</strong>, auteurs van Geef je ogen de kost, is dat precies het probleem. &#8220;Mensen zijn gewend een bril te dragen zonder te beseffen dat het hun ogen alleen maar slechter maakt&#8221;, zegt Hogenboom. Ze spreekt uit ervaring: na dertig jaar een bril gedragen te hebben, ontdekte ze dat haar zicht zonder bril kon verbeteren &#8211; door haar voeding en leefstijl aan te passen. Samen met Stevens wil ze met dit boek anderen inspireren om niet alleen beter voor hun ogen te zorgen, maar voor hun hele lichaam.</p><p>Het persoonlijke verhaal van <strong>Hogenboom</strong> is een inspiratiebron voor velen. &#8220;Toen ik mijn bril voor het eerst afzette, liep ik tegen een waas aan die ik zag. Maar het was het begin van een ontdekkingstocht: wat hebben mijn ogen nodig om weer goed te zien?&#8221; Die reis leidde haar naar voeding en innerlijke heling. &#8220;Onze ogen zijn een spiegel van ons lichaam&#8221;, legt ze uit. &#8220;Door stress, slechte voeding en gebrek aan ontspanning verliezen ze hun kracht. Door gezonde keuzes te maken, kun je dat proces omkeren.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Hogenboom</strong> is niet de enige die dit heeft ervaren. Tijdens een retraite in Zuid-Frankrijk waar <strong>Stevens</strong> als kok was uitgenodigd, zagen deelnemers hun zicht verbeteren na slechts enkele dagen gezonde voeding en speciale oefeningen.</p><p>Mensen gingen van -6 naar -4 binnen een week&#8221;, vertelt <strong>Stevens</strong> enthousiast. &#8220;Bouillon drinken, oefeningen doen en ontspannen in de natuur: het werkt gewoon.&#8221; <strong>Hogenboom</strong> legt uit dat het dragen van een bril de gezondheid van je ogen juist kan verslechteren. &#8220;Een bril maskeert het probleem. Je ogen passen zich aan de sterkte van de glazen aan, waardoor ze steeds minder hun natuurlijke functies gebruiken. Het is bewezen dat mensen die al jong een sterke bril dragen, later meer kans hebben op ernstige oogziektes.&#8221; Ze citeert een van haar leraren: &#8220;Een bril is een vorm van verslaving. Toen ik voor het eerst twee uur zonder bril liep, voelde ik me onwennig, maar ook vrij. Het is een kwestie van wennen en vertrouwen op je lichaam.&#8221; Volgens <strong>Hogenboom</strong> kun je beter een zwakkere bril dragen en je bril regelmatig afzetten. &#8220;Je ogen worden er sterker van en je vermindert de spanning en stress die een bril veroorzaakt.&#8221;</p><p>Volgens <strong>Stevens</strong> begint alles bij voeding. Ze baseert zich op de onderzoeken van <strong>Weston A. Price,</strong> een tandarts die ontdekte dat traditionele voeding niet alleen de tandgezondheid maar ook het zicht en de algehele gezondheid be&#239;nvloedt. &#8220;Price zag dat natuurvolkeren die hun oorspronkelijke dieet volgden, vaak tot op hoge leeftijd perfect zagen&#8221;, legt <strong>Stevens</strong> uit. &#8220;Maar zodra ze overstapten op een westers dieet met bewerkte voedingsmiddelen, ging het binnen een generatie mis.&#8221; </p><h1>Wat zijn dan die traditionele voedingsmiddelen?</h1><p>&#8220;Denk aan dierlijke vetten, lang getrokken bouillons, gefermenteerde groenten en volle melkproducten&#8221;, zegt <strong>Stevens</strong>. &#8220;We zijn niet bang voor zout of cholesterol. Het zijn juist deze natuurlijke voedingsstoffen die je lichaam voeden en versterken. Mensen voelen zich vaak binnen een paar dagen beter als ze overstappen op deze voeding.&#8221; Suiker en bewerkte oli&#235;n als margarine en zonnebloemolie zijn de boosdoeners. </p><p><strong>Hogenboom</strong>: &#8220;Die zijn funest voor je lichaam en dus ook voor je ogen. Vanavond nog: gooi ze in de prullenbak!&#8221;</p><p>Volgens <strong>Stevens</strong> is het idee dat dierlijke vetten slecht voor je zijn een misvatting: &#8220;Er zit een hele agenda achter het veganistische verhaal.
